Da non perdere
The Aretino oven at Menchetti has another 8 just like it in Tuscany and Umbria. They produce all kinds of baked goods: from croissants for breakfast, to bread to pizza. Pizza plays a central role; in fact they are made continually throughout the day. The dough (semi-whole grain or whole grain from Verna) is extremely moist, and the baking on a stone surface makes it crunchy on the outside. Mostly local ingredients are used for the toppings, including Tuscan tomatoes, salamis and mushrooms. Despite the fact that this establishment makes pizza by-the-slice, the continual production and constant crowd of patrons, allows for a product that is always fresh and that does not need to be reheated. There is wide variety of breads and other baked goods on offer such as cookies and tarts.
