In the charming village of San Martino delle Scale, since 1980 the Forneria Messina has been producing soft sfincioni and fragrant pizzas, mixed with organic semi-wholewheat stone-ground flour. The focaccias are very good, seasoned with fresh ricotta or “cunsate”, or according to tradition with fresh tomatoes, caciocavallo cheese and anchovies. Among the recommended pizzas, Mortadella Capitelli, with pesto mozzarella and pistachio grains. The sausage and cavuliceddi (a wild vegetable) pizza is made with local ingredients. Forneria Messina, however, is not just pizza, many tasty first and second courses complete the offering. The finale is sweet with cannoli or ricotta cassatella. Fast service. Nice selection of craft brews.
