Pizzerie Top 2020
12° - La Gatta Mangiona
A true institution in Rome, Gatta Mangiona is located in the Monteverde Nuovo district, near the market in Piazza San Giovanni di Dio. The atmosphere is typical of a pizzeria, the furnishings are well-kept and imbellished with decorations and themed photos of cats. The pizza is a result of a perfect fusion between the Roman and Neapolitan pizza styles. The dough is not too high, but still allows you to have enough crust to dunk into the sauce. The dough is light, puffy and digestible and topped adequately and creatively by Giancarlo Casa as he skilfully moves between traditional and more innovative flavors. The references to the oriental culture are also intriguing: such as the Margherita Thai with tomato, fior di latte and oriental spices or the cod fillet accompanied with hummus, which truly testifies the versatility and creativity put into the dishes. The all-female staff is young and efficient. The beers proposed are carefully selected and the wines offered are of merit—at least for a pizzeria. We must also praise the brandies offered. All hats off to this pizzeria!
