Guardiagrele is a delightful village that is worth visiting to admire its historic center but also to eat an exquisite pizza. La Sorgente Pizzeria is a true landmark in town. Here they serve pizza “alla pala” (the meter-long) or the classic round one, also available in a tasting version. Arcangelo Zulli, a master of leavened products, works the oven and his son Angelo who takes care of in the dining room. They select many good Italian ingredients and the best of the local products to top their pizzas. The result is a digestible, tasty pizza topped with abundance and balance. The meter-long pizza with San Daniele ham and smoked buffalo-milk mozzarella is excellent. While the pizza “Provocazione” (temptation) is very rich, always with buffalo-milk mozzarella, Tropea onions, almonds, honey and Teramo ventricina (seasoned pork sausage typical of the area). Also worth trying is the whole-wheat dough. The wine menu is very interesting. The staff, who are very courteous, really add to this enjoyable experience.
