The pizza deemed “Winner of the 2019 Pizza World Championship” may be excessive but with Ligurian Aromas, the pizza in question is truly surprising. Their dough consists of type 2 flours and, using a scarce sieving process, this pizza features a great fragrance and a lightness to the bite. Pesto is also added along with pine nuts. Only quality ingredients are used, for flavors that are distinctly Ligurian, in which the hinterland prevails (the hills rather than the sea). In a similar manner, the other pizzas offered are always intriguing as well as light and very easily digestible. Among all the pizzas available, those inspired by the seven deadly sins stand out. Sitting at the tables of the Picea, in the historic center of Levanto, requires time and patience, especially since today the two beautiful dining rooms were both fully reserved. It is well worth, however, waiting a bit to sit at one of the very few tables in the “carruggio” (a small typical Ligurian alley). Acceptable compromises are made given the recent health safety measures in place. A fast-paced but efficient service is ensured. Good craft beers on tap are available: Ligurian, Genovese and young, fresh beers, as is the air you breathe in Via della Concia.
