Pizzerie Eccellenti 2020
Pizzeria Lu Riale
Luigi Romano gives off a gipsy vibe, with a sly gaze and modesty to spare. His establishment Riale has become a regular spot for those who live in the surroundings of Matino, a village perched on a hill overlooking the sea of Gallipoli. He is a world champion many times over, ranked first for best dessert pizza in 2009 and best gluten-free in Rimini in 2010. He has been kneading pizza dough since he was 15 years old. His technique has been refined over time, and today he proposes a flagrant and tasty dough, the result of a long leavening. The selection on the menu is very vast, and the staff knows how to best suggest the right combination with local craft beers. Ask for pizza by the meter, and you will not regret it. It is a joy to the palate: the crust is crispy, high but not overly so, and the interior is soft and tasty. In addition to pizza you can also opt for seafood or meat dishes; these are also gluten-free. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with exposed stone walls and vaulted ceilings.
