50 Top Pizza Europa 2023: Sartoria Panatieri in Barcelona has been named the Best Pizzeria in Europe for 2023
In second place, Bæst in Copenhagen, third place 50 Kalò in London
The exciting evening awards ceremony was presented in Barcelona by Verónica Zumalacárregui, and recognized the best pizzerias in the Old Continent, excluding Italy.
Sartoria Panatieri has captured the number one slot for 50 Top Pizza Europa 2023. This honor was conferred by 50 Top Pizza, the most influential guide in the world in the pizza sector. The news was announced yesterday evening from the Auditorio MGS in Barcelona during a highly followed ceremony broadcast live over the network’s social platforms and presented by Verónica Zumalacárregui. It was a milestone of important achievement for Rafa Panatieri and Jorge Sastre’s pizzeria which has won the highly coveted special award Pizza of the Year 2023 – Latteria Sorrentina Award, with Salsa de tomates cherry asados, mozzarella y holandesa de albahaca.
In second place is Bæst, the pizzeria by Christian Puglisi, in Copenhagen. The third step on the podium belongs to 50 Kalò, the English pizzeria by Ciro Salvo, which won first place in the first edition of the European guide. It also took home one of the special awards, Best Fried Pasta Pie 2023 – Pastificio Di Martino Award.
Landing in fourth position is the pizzeria by Francesco Calò, Via Toledo Enopizzeria in Vienna, Austria, which also has taken home the special award Best Wine List 2023 – Asti DOCG Award.
In fifth position is Pizza Zulù, in Fürth, which has also captured the Made in Italy 2023 – Mammafiore Award; in sixth place Fratelli Figurato, pizzeria in Madrid; seventh Forza, in Helsinki, which has also won the Best Fried Food – Il Fritturista 2023 – Oleificio Zucchi Award; in eighth place is Napoli on the Road, in London, by Michele Pascarella, which has also taken home the coveted Pizza Maker of the Year 2023 – Ferrarelle Award; in ninth place nNea, in Amsterdam. Closing the top ten is La Balmesina, in Barcelona.
Other special awards include: Performance of the Year 2023 – Robo Award which has been won by the french pizzeria IMperfetto, in Puteaux; Best Service 2023 – Goeldlin Award has gone to La Pizza è Bella Gourmet, in Brussels; New Entry of the Year 2023 – Solania Award to Baldoria, in Madrid; Best Beer Service 2023 – Birrificio Fratelli Perrella Award has been given to Demaio, in Bilbao; and finally the One to Watch 2023 – Fedegroup Award has gone to Cloud Factory, in Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg.
The environmental sustainability movement has been growing among European pizzerias and, for 2023, six Green Oven awards have been conferred. These awards recognize establishments which distinguish themselves for their great care towards our planet and for their environmentally sustainable practices. This year’s Green Oven awards have been given to: Sartoria Panatieri in Barcelona; Bæst in Copenhagen; Forza in Helsinki; La Pizza è Bella Gourmet in Brussels; MO de Movimiento in Madrid; Flat Earth in London.
Spain is the nation with the highest number of establishments in the guide with 17 venues. It is followed by England with 16 venues, then Germany with 15 and France with 13, for a total of 33 countries represented in the ranking. In general, the entire quality pizza movement in Europe has seen significant growth during the past year.
“We have two big pieces of news for the 2023 50 Top Pizza European guide.” underscore the curators Barbara Guerra, Luciano Pignataro and Albert Sapere,” The first is the expansion of the guide to a total of 150 venues. Each was visited and has been guaranteed by our inspectors, who have determined where it is possible to find an excellent-quality pizza. The second is our new Pizza Week – Barcelona Edition 2023, organized in collaboration with Mammafiore. The entire gastronomic community of the Catalan city has been mobilized. The program began on May 2nd and will conclude on the 6th.”
The first 25 positions in the 2023 50 Top Pizza European ranking have earned entry into the 100 Best Pizzerias in the World, a separate classification which will be announced in Naples on September 13th at the Palazzo Reale.
